The Abduction Case of Police Officer Herbert Schirmer
On the early morning of December 3, 1967, police sergeant Herbert Schirmer claimed to have experienced one of the most well-known episodes in the history of UFO research in the United States. His account involves the sighting of an unidentified flying object, a period of missing time, and an alleged abduction experience that took place near the city of Ashland, Nebraska.
CONTINUA DEPOIS DA PUBLICIDADEAccording to Schirmer’s testimony, who was 22 years old at the time, he was patrolling the area along Highway 63 at around 2:30 a.m. when he noticed red lights along the road. Initially, he believed it was a stopped truck and approached the scene in his police vehicle with the high beams on.

As he approached, he claimed to have realized that the object was not a conventional vehicle. Schirmer described a disc-shaped craft with a shiny metallic surface resembling aluminum, windows illuminated by pulsating red lights, and a structure resembling a walkway surrounding the craft.

The object was reportedly hovering between two and two and a half meters above the road, with a slight tilt. According to the police officer, it began to rise slowly, emitting a sound similar to a siren and a type of flame from its underside before rapidly accelerating and disappearing into the sky.
CONTINUA DEPOIS DA PUBLICIDADEAfter the sighting, Schirmer exited his patrol car and examined the location where the object had allegedly hovered. He then returned to the police station and recorded the incident in the logbook with the phrase: “I saw a flying saucer at the intersection of Highways 6 and 63. Believe it or not!”

The police officer also noticed a discrepancy in the time, as it was already approximately 3:00 a.m., although he believed the observation had lasted only a few minutes. In the following hours, he reported headaches, a persistent ringing in his ears, and the appearance of a reddish mark on his neck.

Police Chief Bill Wlaskin later visited the area of the alleged encounter and found a small metallic fragment. Analysis indicated the presence of iron and silicon, but investigators associated with the Condon Project, conducted by the University of Colorado, concluded that the material was likely corroded terrestrial debris unrelated to any extraordinary phenomenon.
CONTINUA DEPOIS DA PUBLICIDADEMonths later, during sessions of hypnotic regression, Schirmer reported additional memories of the incident. According to his account, small humanoid beings, approximately 1.2 to 1.5 meters (4 to 5 feet) tall, approached his patrol car and took him aboard the object.

He described the entities as having grayish-white skin, elongated heads, slanted cat-like eyes that did not blink, flattened noses, and a small opening in place of a mouth. He also stated that they wore silver-gray suits, gloves, helmets with small side antennas, and a winged serpent symbol on their uniforms.

During his alleged time aboard the craft, estimated by Schirmer to have lasted about 50 minutes, the beings reportedly explained that they came from a planet located in a nearby galaxy and had been observing humanity for a very long time. He further stated that the visitors said they used some landings to collect energy from transmission lines built by human beings.
CONTINUA DEPOIS DA PUBLICIDADEAccording to the account obtained under hypnosis, the occupants described their mission as part of a “Creation Analysis Program” and stated that humanity would remain unable to understand their presence until it was prepared for such contact.

The case was investigated by researchers of unidentified anomalous phenomena and was also analyzed by the Condon Project, an academic study funded by the United States Air Force to evaluate UFO reports during the 1960s.
Despite the widespread attention the incident received, no conclusive physical evidence was ever presented to confirm the alleged abduction.
CONTINUA DEPOIS DA PUBLICIDADEEven so, Herbert Schirmer’s account remains one of the best-known and most debated cases in the history of ufology, particularly because it involves the testimony of a law enforcement officer who was on duty at the time of the alleged encounter.
