Former Vatican Translator Claims the Nephilim Came from Orion
Mauro Biglino, an Italian translator and researcher known for his studies of ancient Hebrew texts, has once again sparked debate by defending the hypothesis that the Nephilim mentioned in the Bible were connected to the constellation Orion. He recently presented this interpretation during an interview with researcher Jay Anderson of the Project Unity initiative.

According to the researcher, his career took a different direction when he began promoting his own interpretations of the original texts, based on linguistic analyses that diverge from traditional theological readings.
The core of his latest hypothesis centers on the origin of the word “Nephilim.” According to Biglino, the term appears in the plural form, while its singular counterpart would be “Nephil” or “Nephila” in Aramaic. In his interpretation, this word was used to refer to the constellation Orion.
Based on this philological analysis, the researcher argues that there is room for an alternative reading of ancient texts. During the interview, he stated that if Nephilim is indeed the plural form of Nephila, it would be possible to consider the hypothesis that the term refers to beings who came from Orion.

Various theories link the star group to origin stories, ancestral knowledge, and even the construction of ancient monuments such as the Giza pyramids, which are frequently cited in alternative studies of astronomical alignments.
The Nephilim are mentioned briefly in the Book of Genesis but are described in greater detail in the Book of Enoch, an ancient work that recounts the descent of a group of 200 angels to Earth. According to the text, these beings united with human women and produced descendants described as giants.
In Biglino’s interpretation, this episode forms part of a broader scenario of external intervention in human history. The researcher argues that the Elohim mentioned in the Bible were not spiritual entities, but rather individuals belonging to a technologically advanced civilization.

During the interview, Biglino claimed that modern humans are the result of successive modifications carried out by these groups described in ancient texts.
Another point highlighted by the researcher involves the Hebrew term “Barah,” traditionally translated as “to create.” According to his interpretation, the word would instead mean “to intervene in an already existing situation in order to modify it,” suggesting that certain biblical accounts may describe processes of transformation rather than creation from nothing.
Biglino’s interpretations continue to divide opinion among scholars of religious texts, independent researchers, and those interested in theories involving ancient contact with advanced civilizations.
